Leadership in Early Childhood Education

The Leadership in ECE micro-credential will prepare you to apply research and assessment tools to evaluate and advance instructional choices and educational policies for the young children of today and tomorrow. Learners will develop holistic and ethical leadership skills to embrace the challenges of the modern early chilhood education landscape.

Apply research-based knowledge and strategies as a leader in the realm of early childhood education to advocate and engage in holistic and developmental approaches in early childhood education. The microcredential provides a specialized research-based education for post-baccalaureate learners and may be completed in one year, starting any quarter.

• ED 520: (Holistic Early Childhood Education for Change)
• ED 530: (Enriching Multicultural Family and Community Engagement)
• ED 540: (From Teacher to Thinker)
• ED 550: (Trauma and Restorative Justice)

Rising Economic Demand

• Employment of preschool teachers is projected to grow 2 percent from 2019 to 2029, slower than the average for all occupations.
• Early childhood education is important for a child’s intellectual and social development. Preschool teachers should be needed to meet the slowly increasing demand for early childhood education.
• Both Raise Up Oregon and the Early Childhood Professional Learning Plan Legislative Report provide a roadmap for achieving diversification of the early learning workforce and achieving salary parity with K-12 teachers in Oregon. Our program courses align with the Power to the Profession’s Unifying Framework for the Early Childhood Profession.
• The Early Learning Division (ELD) has adopted the Oregon Equity Lens, along with the HECC.

The courses listed above critically examine the current state of early childhood education and provide much needed leadership preparation to experienced early learning educators for potential leadership roles that are aligned with the strategic plan and vision expressed by the Governor.
