There are two ways to add on many of the Subject Area Endorsements (Art, Biology, Business, Chemistry, French, German, Health, Integrated Science, Language Arts, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Physics, Social Studies, and Spanish).
1) If you already hold an Oregon teaching license with a high school authorization level and if you hold a contract teaching job in an Oregon school district, the easiest way to add a Subject Area Endorsement is to work directly with TSPC. You would need to pass the NES ORELA exam listed at http://www.orela.nesinc.com.* You would also need to teach one class period of the subject for at least 60 clock hours. Once you complete these two things, you and your school district could apply directly to TSPC to have the new Subject Area Endorsement added to your Oregon teaching license.
2) If do not already hold an Oregon teaching license with the high school authorization level and/or if you are not working for an Oregon school district, you can complete an Add-On Endorsement Program at Southern Oregon University. As part of that program, you would need to meet our Subject Area Endorsement prerequisite course requirements. You can find the list of our prerequisite course requirements at http://www.sou.edu/education/mat/admission.html.
If you do not hold the High School Authorization Level, you would also need to complete a program for Adding a Level (does not apply to individuals holding an Oregon "Basic" or "Standard" teaching license). More information is provided in the section below.
*Required testing for the French and German endorsements can be found at the Praxis website.
