Rubrics are effective tools to promote learning that clarify expectations and communicate standards to students. They can also be used for grading and assessment purposes. At an institutional level, we have developed a rubric that addresses our foundational goals of A, B, and C. Respectively these correspond to written communication, critical thinking, and information literacy. We have used this rubric to score the final university seminar essay (FUSE) as well as senior level writing from our majors.
