Raider Reach-Out
Faculty School Liaison
Developing faculty/teacher liaisons with high school and/or community college department chairs in similar subject areas can be an important outreach tool. On one occasion the School of Sciences hosted a program and interacted with the counselors from Crater High School. As a direct result of the discussion that Crater High School counselors had with our Sciences faculty, SOU netted an application from one of their top science students who had not previously considered SOU.
Admissions can help faculty to connect with school contacts. When your travel plans take you to a meeting in Eugene or Portland (or even locally), contact the Admissions Office in advance. Admissions will provide you with a list of a feeder school or two in that area with contact names and phone numbers. You would contact the high school chair and meet with him or her when in the area. Discussions could center on what their students would gain from an education in your shared discipline at Southern Oregon University. Working with one student impacts that student, while working with one counselor or department chair can generate hundreds of potential contacts.
Many faculty already have these contacts, and it would be helpful to have these relationships recorded to be used in the Raider Reach-Out effort. Just use the sign up form by following the link below to let us know.
