Southern Oregon University

SOU Art and Art History offers scholarships ranging from $200 to $5,000 per year that are available to new and continuing students who major in visual Art or Art History and are outstanding studio artists or scholars. Applications are accepted in early winter for the following academic year. Students must reapply each year to be considered for a scholarship.

Scholarship applications have a recurring annual deadline of March 1st. In order to apply for a scholarship, you first must have applied for admission and have been accepted to SOU.

To Apply for Art Scholarships:

Fill out the Southern Online Scholarship Application (SOSA).
Search and individually apply for the Art and Art History scholarships listed below.

Be prepared with the following:

  • GPA
  • A one-page maximum (double-spaced) statement about your decision to major in Art or Art History with a personal reflection on your submitted artwork or the importance of art in contemporary society.
  • 6-10 jpeg images of artwork completed in the past two years (Studio Art)
    OR 
    A two-page maximum (double-spaced) example of expository writing on a topic of your choice (Art History)
  • Contact information for an art (or another) teacher who has inspired you in the field of Art or Art History and who may provide a letter of recommendation.

**This scholarship is available to incoming freshman.

Blackfish Gallery Annual Recent Graduates Exhibition - Two top graduates from each of Oregon’s 15 colleges and universities are selected to participate in a summer show in Portland, OR.
Leon Mulling Award
Marion Ady Memorial Scholarship - One award to a student in the Humanities, who is an Oregon resident.
