ASSOU Term 2013 2014
I am the HEC Senator and my goal has been to get students, who attend classes in Medford, engaged and informed of issues that will directly affect them. My goal will be to give them a voice in the current issues and hopefully help them become and feel more engaged in their University experience.
The HEC senate seat is a new position created by the senate in February 2012. I advocated for this position because as a student who attends classes at the HEC, I felt disengaged and not part of the SOU community and I noticed others felt the same as me. I proposed the position to the senate and immediately Sam Longnecker (At-Large Senator) and Blake Bloomquist sponsored a bill to have the position created. I was also successful in getting 153 of my fellow students to sign my petition, which proved, others felt as I did.
I feel being a part of ASSOU has enhanced my University experience but also has allowed to me to get to know and interact with other amazing members of ASSOU, SOU’s student community, and members of SOU’s Administration. I encourage all students thinking about becoming involved in ASSOU to do so, it is an incredible experience.
Constituents include any member of the ASSOU that attend the Higher Education Center.
