During the month of February, SOU’s Civic Engagement Program is coordinating the Governor’s State Employee Food Drive in an effort to alleviate hunger here on campus and in the wider Rogue Valley to inspire responsible global citizenship. We’ll be collecting food items, monetary donations, and hosting a variety of civic engagement programming opportunities for students and staff alike. Be sure to check out all that we have going on, and how you can get involved!
Department competition: the department/unit that contributes the most (pounds of food AND monetary donations converted to equivalent pounds, $1=4 pounds of food) will receive celebratory bagels and coffee for everyone at your next staff/faculty meeting. Last year the Business program tied with the Office of International Programs for the most food donated calculated “per capita”, with Business donating highest amount of food at a whopping 250 pounds!
Donate Money: All monetary donations help support food assistance programs at ACCESS to provide necessary food and supplies to the most vulnerable members of our community! Donate money during the month of February:
Sign up for a monthly or one time payroll deduction using the payroll deduction form. Payroll deduction contributions count toward the department competition!
February 5-28 add one dollar (or $10!) to your purchases at any SOU Dining location
Donate Food: Feb 12-16 donate non-perishable food items at collection points at each department office. Red “food drive” bags will be distributed, along with more details, to all SOU employees the week of February 5th. All non-perishable food donated goes directly to support the SOU Student Food Pantry.
Donate Time: Volunteer on February 24th for the Civic Engagement Program’s day of service with ACCESS in Medford (transportation, lunch and t-shirt provided!). For more information and to rsvp by February 22, click here
