SOU offers two face-to-face classes each summer at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay. These classes can be used for professional development or as part of the Master in Education. Three summer courses at Southwestern Oregon Community College designed to enhance your professional growth and energize your teaching!
ED 540: Reading Programs, K-12 (3 credits)
Prepares students for leadership roles in developmental, remedial, and enrichment reading programs at school- and district-wide levels. Reviews current materials, media, and management systems for teaching K–12 reading.

ED 547: Impact of Culture in the Classroom (3 credits)
Focuses on how culture manifests itself in school settings and provides a foundation for understanding methods and strategies to ensure that each student’s own cultural experiences are reflected and validated in classroom learning experiences.
Monday, June 15 - Friday, June 19 from 9:00 am to 12:20 pm
ED 595: Models of Professional Development (3 credits)
In this course, participants take the challenge to develop and refine their professional skills through the design and implementation of a project that benefits his/her school, district, and /or community. Through this process, educators will reflect on the success of the project and goals for their future. Students can take up to one year to complete their project ONLINE.
