WIRELESS NETWORK

When you establish a Dial-up connection from a remote location, you will notice that you don't have direct access to your F: and G: drives. This is where FTP comes to the rescue.

FTP stands for File Transfer protocol. To take advantage of the FTP service you will need to use an FTP application. The FTP application will ask for your user name and password (same as those used for the SOU Faculty/Staff Dial-up networking) and connect you to an SOU FTP server. Once connected you will be presented with something similar to a Windows Explorer interface, one for the local computer (your notebook computer) and one for the remote system (the FTP server). The FTP server will typically connect to your home directory (F:). The interface will allow you to transfer files back and forth between your local computer and the remote system.
