Remote & Mobile Computing
Computing Services supports a variety of Remote and Mobile Computing needs. Remote Computing includes connecting to the campus network and accessing network resources from a remote or off-campus location. This could be a student in a dorm using the high-speed network or a dial-up connection. It could be a faculty or staff member using their home computer and Internet account or using a checkout notebook computer with the SOU Faculty/Staff dial-up networking account.The network resources available for Remote Computing are e-mail, files on the campus network with FTP, SOU web sites and SOU Information Systems. E-mail access includes GroupWise, GroupWise Remote, GroupWise WebAccess and popular IMAP/POP3 e-mail clients. File access via FTP includes transferring files to or from your local computer and your network F: and G: drives. Remote Computing allows access to SOU web sites. You can also make use of SOU information systems such as Banner, Rogue Linx and more.
Mobile Computing includes all aspects of Remote Computing and includes issues that are specific to users who must compute from several different locations or while traveling. This mostly deals with connecting to the campus network from different locations and caring for computing equipment when traveling.
