Web Resources and Guidelines

This site provides resources and guidelines for people publishing to the SOU Web site and other campus Web sites.

What Web sites do we have?

The main campus Web site, www.sou.edu

This is our public Web site. This is often the first place people go to learn about SOU. As such, we want to be sure we always make a good first impression. The target audience for our public Web site is prospective students and their families. While we recognize that the public Web site is also the front door for information and services for current students, faculty, and staff, we want to design our content in a manner that will be attractive to new students. Our current students, faculty, and staff will quickly learn to navigate through the marketing content to the resources they are looking for. In addition the “Portal”, slated to debut in fall 2007, will quickly become the main home page for current students, faculty, and staff. The emphasis for the public Web site is marketing and enrollment.

The secure “Inner Web,” campus.sou.edu

This site is for sensitive information that needs to be kept secure. Access to this site requires an SOU network account. It is available to student, faculty, and staff, but individual sites can be restricted to exclude students or to require specific group membership. For information on how to post pages to this site please send us an email.

Personal Web site, home.sou.edu

Every SOU student, faculty, and staff member can have their own Web site. You can create these sites in your home directory (a.k.a. F: drive) in a folder called public_html. The path to your personal home page would be F:/public_html/index.html. You then access your page at http://home.sou.edu/~username where the username is your SOU network username. There is more information on personal Web pages for students and for faculty and staff.
