Speaker change for Fridays at 3 presentation tomorrow
October 15, 2009
Southern Oregon University’s Dean of Education, Geoff Mills, will stand in tomorrow for Alissa Arp at the Fridays at 3 presentation in the SOU Science Building auditorium. Illness prevents Arp, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, from appearing. Her presentation will be rescheduled at a later date.
Mills will present “Action Research and an Academic Life: A Road Well-Traveled.” Action research is practitioner-based research used in the social sciences. His talk will focus on how action research has impacted his professional life and the lives of his students.
Mills is a native of Australia who moved to the United States in 1986 for doctoral studies at the University of Oregon. After completing his PhD in 1988, Mills accepted his first teaching position at what was then called Southern Oregon State College. After 12 years of teaching, Mills moved into administration and is now in his ninth year as Dean and Professor in the School of Education at SOU.
Mills has presented talks on action research around the world and is the author of Action Research: A Guide for the Teacher Researcher, 4e, and is the only active author of Educational Research: Competencies for Analysis and Applications (2009), now in its ninth edition.
