Raider Wilderness Experience & Weekend of Welcome Adventures

The Raider Wilderness Experience offers a great chance to start your college career with adventure and challenge. These safety minded, small group adventures are all led by SOU Student staff to some of the best outdoor locations in the region. These fun and challenging adventures are a great way to make friends and have some time to reflect on your transition to university life. All adventures include instruction, meals, equipment, park entrance fees, three nights of camping fees as well as transportation. No experience is necessary for any of our adventures. Cost is $250.


 All participants move into their dorm early on Sept 22nd. The adventure begins on Sept. 23rd! We will return to campus on the evening of the 26th. 

For the 2013/2014 school year the Outdoor Programs is pleased to offer the following RWE adventures! Signups begin on June 10th!

  • Backpacking Adventure. Challenge yourself over four days spent on this true wilderness adventure in some of the region’s most stunning wilderness. Excellent opportunities for swimming and nature photography exist on this adventure. This is the best trip for those wishing for deep connection with the natural environment. All experience levels are welcome. 
  • Intro to Mountain Biking. Start your college experience on two wheels. Spend four days advancing your mountain biking skills on a variety of Oregon trails. This experience includes lessons, lots of great coaching from our experienced student staff, as well as biking equipment. All experience levels are welcome.
  • Whitewater Rafting and Rock Climbing Multisport Challenge. Sweet! Enjoy two days of rock climbing and two days of whitewater rafting with professionally trained student staff. All experience levels are welcome.

 

Weekend of Welcome Single Day Adventures - Sept. 29th.

Weekend of Welcome adventures offer a great opportunity to get out for some excitment the day before class starts. We have three adventures to choose from; whitewater rafting, rock climbing and hiking. All adventure include lunch, transportation, instruction and equipment. No experience necessary! All trips will meet at the Outdoor Programs office in the morning of the adventure and return to campus in the evening. Everyone who signs up will be emailed more specific information about what to bring, but please feel free to check out our what to pack page. 

Whitewater rafting/kayaking on a local class 3/4 river. Gear, instruction, transportation and lunch included. No experience necessary. $30. Meet at the Outdoor Programs office at 9am.

Spend the day hiking with in the beautiful mountains surrounding Southern Oregon University. Lunch and transportation included. No experience necessary. $25. Meet at the Outdoor Programs office at 8:00.

Climb on! Come rock climb with us at a local crag. No experience necessary. Lunch, instruction, transportation and gear included. No experience necessary. $25. Meet at the Outdoor Programs office at 8:30.
