President's Office Staff

Liz Shelby, Chief of Staff and Director of Government Relations, has been employed with Southern Oregon University for nearly 17 years.  She served as the director of the School of Business Small Business Development Center for 14 years.  Three years ago Liz accepted a position in the President's office, combining her government relations work with responsibilities as a member of the President's Cabinet.  Before employment with the university, Liz worked with the Chamber of Medford/Jackson County and Southern Oregon Regional Economic Development Inc., as the Executive Director for Economic Development.  Liz holds an MBA from SOU and is active in the community, serving on several boards.

With a background in Human Services, Sales, Customer Service, and Broadcast Communications, Miriam brings a special blend of skills to the President's Office. Miriam worked in SOU's Human Resources dept. before joining the president's office last year, giving her valuable insight and knowledge of the staff and university.  Her HR experience also includes working as an employee specialist at Harry & David and a personnel coordinator at Lithia Motors.  Before that she worked for the City and County of San Francisco as an assistant to senior managers in the Medi-Cal program (Dept. of Human Services).  Miriam earned her BA degree at San Francisco State University and has worked in radio and television as a writer/producer, editor, operations and talent.  She is fluent in Spanish and sings in a small choir.
