Schneider Museum of Art
The Schneider Museum of Art...
...is a vital force in the intellectual life of Southern Oregon University that promotes an understanding of the visual arts within a liberal arts education.
Serving both an academic and community audience, it seeks to build a challenging environment that engages with the visual arts through exhibitions and programs supporting interdisciplinary study, research, and discourse.
The Museum will be closed on Saturday, December 7 due to inclement weather. After December 7, the Museum will be closed for an exhibition change. Please be sure to join us on Thursday, January 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM for the opening reception of Home: Habitat + Shelter. Please watch the website in the coming week for more details. Regular Museum hours will resume Friday, January 10.

Buy a Bag – Support the Schneider Museum of Art!
The Schneider Museum of Art was designated by Market of Choice to be one of four arts organizations in Oregon to be the recipient of proceeds from the sale of its Art Bags!
The next time you visit Market of Choice, be sure to look for the new 100% recyclable, non-woven polypropylene reusable Art Bags, which features the work of Corvallis artist Licia Basille-Jelten and help support the Museum.
That’s right! For each beautiful bag sold, $1.50 goes to support Oregon arts organizations, such as ours. These sensible shopping bags also make greats totes for art supplies, books and more, so be sure to purchase several. And please thank Market of Choice for supporting SOU and the Schneider Museum of Art.
The Permanent Collection
The museum's permanent collection originated from gifts donated to the university during the early stages of the museum's planning and development. Over time with the generous gifts from collectors, the multifaceted collection has grown to over 1,800 objects of art. The museum maintains a diverse collection of art for exhibition and research. The collection is most heavily focused on works on paper from the 20th century and beyond.
The Schneider Museum of Art was awarded funds to acquire Arnold J. Kemp‘s Who’s Afraid of Something Real (2012), an archival pigment print in an artist’s frame; and Akihiko Miyoshi’s diptych, Abstract Photograph (111511dg2) and (111511c)(2012). This was made possible by The Ford Family Foundation’s Art Acquisition Program, managed by the Oregon Arts Commission, that helps visual arts institutions acquire seminal works by Oregon visual artists. The effort preserves public access to great works, supports the artists, and the institutions that sustain their work.
