The “Green House” Adventure: Explorations in Sustainability and Environmental Change, which launched in Fall of 2013 further establishes SOU as a destination for students interested in exploring sustainability as a core component of their education. The SOU Center for Sustainability mobilizes new and existing resources in innovative ways to serve the emerging need for sustainability-inspired project-based expeditionary learning at Southern Oregon University.
The Center for Sustainability is a living, learning laboratory for Southern Oregon University students, faculty and the general public. The Center supports student capstone projects, applied faculty research and educational investigations into sustainable practices. The Center is a vital link between SOU and the Rogue Valley community, serving as a resource for sustainability knowledge, practices, research and education. Through thoughtful learning and practice, the Center fosters in its participants and visitors a vision of living and working sustainably on the planet. By promoting a sense of interconnection between humans and the rest of nature, the Center is inspiring a new generation of committed citizens and leaders.

The SOU Center for Sustainability is an interdependent hub of sustainability training, leadership, and technology in southern Oregon. Through community and industry partnership, the Center models innovation, global citizenry, and sustainable living. The Center adds beauty to the SOU campus through a commitment to integrating art and science. This includes public art installations, sustainability design charettes, and transformational dialogue. Students, faculty, and staff of the Center work closely with community leaders, children, families, businesses, neighbors, leaders, and government to inspire sustainable practices through hands-on education and solutions. The Center is a place of respect for culture and tradition that models equity, promotes ecological consciousness, and values fiscal responsibility. The innovative structure of the Center encourages service learning by providing a place for career exploration, community-based problem solving and synergistic partnerships.
