Art
Colorful Comics, Cartoons, and Manga
Ages 10-14
Color your drawing world! Come enhance your drawing and coloring skills and use professional markers, watercolors, and colored pencils to learn new ways to color and shade your favorite characters. You will use your own designs and images, whether it’s Manga or other forms of cartooning, and learn ways to make them come alive.

Gremlins, Goblins and Gargoyles
Ages 8-12, Three Sessions, Sundays, October 12-26, 3:00-5:00 pm
Fall is a great time to sharpen your drawing skills and learn new ways to draw faces, cartoons, costumes, gargoyles, vampires, gremlins, goblins and all kind of imaginative characters. This class is designed for beginning and returning students.

Holiday Workshop: Wrapping It Up
Ages 6-8, Two Sessions, Saturdays, December 6 -13, 1:00-3:00 pm
Create a cornucopia of projects to enhance the holiday season. You will add your own artistic touch and make your choice of personalized gifts, festive gift tags and wrappings, cards and ornaments. Who knows? Maybe your parents will be out doing their own secret holiday errands while you take this class. NOTE: All supplies included in the fee.

Conquer the Essay
Ages 15-18, One session, Saturday, October 11, 1:00-4:00 pm
You can boost your score on the SAT timed essay or enhance your college entrance essay. You will build a knowledge bank of specific examples from history, literature, and personal experience and apply this as you practice writing solid essays in an allotted amount of time for a variety of topics. You will develop confidence in your writing, strengthen vocabulary and grammar, increase reading comprehension, improve critical/creative thinking skills and expand descriptive writing abilities.

SAT Prep
Ages 15-18
On your mark, get set, SUCCEED! This SAT prep class will provide you with effective strategies for answering both verbal and math questions and hone writing skills for the current version of the SAT test. You will also learn about test anxiety control, time management tips, and test taking secrets that will help you have a positive SAT experience. NOTE: Textbook is included in the course fee.

Claymation Animation
Ages 9–13, Four Sessions, Saturdays, October 11-November 1, 1:00-3:00 pm
Lights, camera, action! Explore the world of animation, from zoetropes and flipbooks to object animation and claymation. With modeling clay, create characters like Wallace and Gromit and play with settings for your stories. You will be using “stop action” camera animation, while also learning basic camera techniques and composition to understand the story.

Take part in the popular world of musical performance. Bring your inner super star as you learn proper breathing techniques, pitch, harmony and diction. You will learn how to sing, dance, act, improvise and audition. Learn how to “sell” your song to the audience with proper interpretation and microphone technique. Think You Can Dance Ballroom?

Go beyond the basic boulder and enhance your rock climbing skills. You will enjoy climbing to the top of many different routes and learn how to belay your partner. By the end of the week, you will be able to rappel off the SOU Football Stadium, over 50 feet off the ground! Prerequisite: a beginning rock climbing class or comparable experience. NOTE: All equipment provided.

Steel rings on steel—away you go into the fascinating world of swordplay. Safe inside a mask and jacket you will improve your skills in the exciting sport of fencing. If you think bats are only good for Halloween decorations, we've got news for you! Take a closer look at these fascinating and extremely beneficial mammals as we separate myth from reality. Each parent/kid team will build a bat box which is yours to keep and which just might help you with any mosquito problem you have at home!

For centuries, nations around the world have operated Black Chambers, secret rooms where they attempted to decode the messages being sent by their rivals. Come and learn to crack secret coded messages while reviewing the history of codes from 1000BC to 2000AD. Use encryption and code breaking tools, explore cryptography, quantum cryptography, public key crypto & RSA and use a virtual enigma cipher machine. This class will forever alter your view of history and how private the email you just sent really is.

Karin Burroughs has a bachelor of science from SOU and is currently in SOU’s Health and PE/ Outdoor Leadership masters program.
Marla Corbin has spent twelve years playing golf and six years teaching with a focus on junior golfers of all ages in Medford.
Samar Dawisha is a local artist who has taught throughout the Rogue Valley and currently teaches at Ashland High School.
Teresa Francois has a master’s in art education from the Univ. of New Mexico and has taught in youth programs and public schools.
Craig Honeycutt has a master’s in art education and is a local artist with more than twenty years teaching experience.
Shawna Huggins is a trained and certified scorer for the new SAT writing section and has over twenty years of teaching experience.
June Kranenburg has been a dance instructor for over 26 years and has won numerous awards for her specialized instruction.
Robert Luaders has a master’s in management from SOU. He is an energetic computer guru who blends technology with the artistry of life. He is an award-winning vocalist, film composer, and songwriter.
Claudia Michelli has a bachelor’s in fine arts and a master’s in teaching. She is also an artist with more than twenty years of teaching experience.
Marilyn D. Moore is a Culinary Institute-Le Cordon Bleu graduate and a Certified Culinary Educator for the American Culinary Federation. She is the owner of Creative Organic Catering.
Matthew Paradela was a VEX Robotics sponsor in California and currently teaches science at Crater High.
Dylan Shelton is a salle’s leading fencer and long-time student of the sport and a Southern Oregon Fencing Center instructor.
Shama Stewart has a master’s degree in education/educational psychology. She has been a teacher for more than twelve years.
Rick Stinchcomb has been a teaching pro for fourteen, been playing golf for forty-five, and taught at Eugene’s Fiddlers Green before recently relocating to Ashland.
Jenny Welburn has a BA in English and a master's degree in Education from Lewis and Clark College. She is currently teaching english at South Medford High School.
Bonnie Yates is a forensic scientist at the National Fish and Wildlife Forensic Lab. She was also a zoo archaeologist and a specialized scientist devoted to interpreting bones from the Ice Age to old pioneer days.
