Assimilate. Renovate. Participate.
Southern Oregon University’s mission to “inspire curiosity and creativity, compel critical thinking, foster discovery, and cultivate bold ideas and actions” is perfectly tied to this minor’s aims and ends. Undoubtedly, this program will stoke the want to explore opportunities surrounding Esports as an industry. By critically examining relevant articles and case studies that reflect Esports’ growing influence; students will discover the countless opportunities that are tied to Esports.
As a profession, Esports leaders will be expected to enter the industry with a certain degree of understanding and knowledge—something of which that is sorely lacking which is why SOU is sporting this program. Through the use of state-of-the-art technologies/facilities and an evolving innovative curriculum; students will gain both hands-on experience and a broad array of classes that will speak to some of the needs that this industry is facing. Such access will permit students to be on the forefront of an industry that is certainly poised for continued and lasting growth.
The minor will be open to anyone and everyone. It is an inclusive and exciting program that welcomes gaming novices, experts, and the curious alike. As part of its curriculum, the program will intentionally consider—at length—concerns surrounding the historied hemogenic nature of Esports and what we can do to encourage a posture of equity, diversity, and continued inclusion within the field itself. Further, topics like decision making, mental health, and the arts are also of considerable importance.
