The Western study of how human beings work through controversies and make decisions, and then express their conclusions in written and oral forms, began with what Aristotle called rhetoric. The academic disciplines of English, communication, and philosophy each approach rhetoric from a slightly different perspective, but they are members of the same intellectual family. The Minor in Rhetoric and Reason unites that intellectual family in an interdisciplinary curriculum in which students will learn how to be critical thinkers, writers, and speakers.
