Humanities (E)
Disciplines in the arts and humanities focus on intellectual and creative expression approached through historical, cultural, and aesthetic investigations and interpretations.
Recognize human accomplishments in the arts and humanities and understand their role in clarifying individual and shared human values.
1. What are the basic formal elements, principles, and composition structures in written, oral, visual, or performed texts, works, and/or artifacts?
Learners will be able to answer this question by:
- Describing how the many elements in human creative expression reflect ideas and emotions.
- Classifying and comparing creative endeavors according to recognized criteria and genres.
- Understanding how differences in form affect meaning.
2. How do culture and history impact the creation of written, oral, visual, or performed texts, works, and/or artifacts?
Learners will be able to answer this question by:
- Comparing creative works from different time periods and cultures.
- Demonstrating how culture and history influence any creative process.
- Analyzing individuals’ creative processes within a specific art and/or discipline.
3. How does the reception of creative expression influence individuals, societies and cultures?
Learners will be able to answer this question by:
- Explaining how individuals respond differently to intellectual and artistic endeavors.
- Recognizing and explaining how creative endeavors influence personal and/or shared human values.
- Recognizing and explaining how creative expression changes self, society and/or culture.
Social Sciences (F)
Disciplines in the social sciences examine how individuals, groups, institutions, societies, and cultures behave and how they interact with one another and with their environments.
Understand social, political, or economic institutions (such as families, communities, or governments) and consider issues and problems at individual, social, cultural, national, and/or global levels.

Sciences: Physical, Biological and Computer (G)
Disciplines in the sciences focus on a systemized body of knowledge derived through objective inquiry involving repeatable experimentation, observation, verification, and study. In sciences, laboratories offer a controlled setting to perform experiments.
Understand the fundamental concepts, methods, and applications of the sciences and their impacts on human experience.
1. What are the major concepts, principles, and theories of the sciences?
Learners will be able to answer this question by:
- Applying critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and/or problem-solving skills to evaluate scientific evidence, theories, and hypotheses.
- Using the language and concepts of a science discipline.
- Understanding the broad historical outline of the development of the scientific worldview and important theories.
2. How does scientific inquiry learn about and understand the natural world?
Learners will be able to generate and test scientific hypotheses by:
- Designing and carrying out experiments and systematic observational studies. In some cases this may include a laboratory or field setting.
- Using appropriate tools to analyze results.
- Communicating results orally and in writing according to established standards of scientific communication, including appropriate use of tables, figures, and graphs.
3. How do we apply scientific knowledge and methods to societal issues?
Learners will be able to answer this question by:
- Considering how science Informs decision-making on social, political, and/or economic issues.
- Explaining interrelationships between society and the sciences.
- Investigating the technological impacts on society and investigating plausible solutions to adverse impacts.
