itemprop=\"text\" ><p>The SOU Tutoring Center, located on the first floor of the <a href=\"https:\/\/hanlib.sou.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hannon Library<\/a>, is a great resource for current students to get help on projects and papers. Angelyn Pratchios Gay is the new manager of the <a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.sou.edu\/tutoring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tutoring Center<\/a> and shares that their mission is to strive to empower students and provide them with the tools they need to be successful. Angelyn graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in political science and then moved to Ashland in 2014, after her husband got a job at SOU. She has worked part-time for Omar\u2019s Restaurant doing bookkeeping, payroll, and management, but decided it was time to get back to working full-time last year. She also helps promote all the free services that the library has to offer. Her day-to-day tasks vary depending on the week of the term, but 75% of her job is &#8220;working with people,&#8221; which includes hiring, training, and managing 20+ employees as well as supporting students in the Tech Help area and Library Computer Lab. The other 25% of her job is &#8220;administrative tasks&#8221; such as &#8220;approving payroll and tracking schedules, keeping the website and appointment schedule up to date, overseeing budgets and supply purchasing, and assisting in Library outreach and promotion.\u201d She also manages the physical space of the library help desk, study rooms, computer labs, and of course the Tutoring Center. Angelyn highly recommends in-person tutoring: \u201cThere still is something about face-to-face interactions that I think makes for a better experience.\u201d Students can also skip appointments altogether and just walk in during the Tutoring Center\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/libguides.sou.edu\/tutoring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">operating hours<\/a>. Connor is a great resource for essay planning and brainstorming. He can help students untangle ideas and organize them in a proper way. Connor has a passion for English and is a highly skilled writer. Another great Writing Center tutor, Sky Church, a <a href=\"\/academics\/creative-writing\/programs\/\">Creative Writing major<\/a> and English minor, is also a great resource. Sky likes helping students with any point in the writing process and appreciates getting walk-ins on slow days: \u201cI love teaching students tips that I use to create my own essays and check my own grammar. For example, helping students create outlines for essays is one of the most exciting tasks for me.\u201d Connor and Sky are great resources and use the skills they have learned in English classes, as well as their own talents to help the SOU student body.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" id=\"style-css-av-lstl34wa-79dd25193d8a86a70855b5e0d6bc34bd\">\n#top .av_textblock_section.av-lstl34wa-79dd25193d8a86a70855b5e0d6bc34bd .avia_textblock{\nfont-size:15px;\n}\n<\/style>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-lstl34wa-79dd25193d8a86a70855b5e0d6bc34bd '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Even if you are not new to SOU, the Tutoring Center is still extremely valuable. Angelyn states that \u201cwe can all appreciate a fresh eye, and need validation to help build our confidence.\u201d She encourages students to just walk in if they are feeling apprehensive about visiting the Tutoring Center and reminds them that \u201cutilizing tutoring does not mean that you are bad at a subject or have poor writing.
