Sociology and Anthropology Alumnus – Eirik Thorsgard
Cultural Anthropologist and Tribal Liaison
Yosemite National Park
Career Path and Life Passions
With experience working in archeology and education, Eirik is now working for the National Parks Service as a cultural anthropologist and American Indian tribal liaison at Yosemite National Park in California. Providing a voice inside of lands that are managed by federal agencies is work Eirik is passionate about:
“I am excited to work with an agency that allows me to do unique and cutting-edge things and work with communities who need to have a voice. It is like being part of a missing piece.”
Best SOU Experience
Eirik drew inspiration from the personal experiences professors shared about living in different tribes all over the world. Eirik took advantage of the opportunities offered by doing archaeological and ethnographic fieldwork during the summers and participating in the Native American Student Union throughout his time at SOU.
