Programs & Activities

OLLI at SOU’s programs and activities provide members an opportunity to enjoy one another’s company and pursue interests outside of the classroom in a variety of formats. These offerings are a great way to add to your OLLI at SOU experience as a participant or as a facilitator.

Talk to Us Interview Series

OLLI at SOU presents online interviews for OLLI members with people who make a difference in Southern Oregon and beyond. “Talk to Us” is hosted by John Ferris and Barry Vitcov from 4–5 p.m. on the third Monday of each month during the academic year (September–May). 

Winter Term Talk to Us Interviews:

  • Monday, January 27, 4 p.m. PT – Gabriella Calicchio, Executive Director, Oregon Shakespeare Festival
  • Monday, February 17, 4 p.m. PT – Gary Kout, Executive Director SOFAT: Southern Oregon Film and Television.
  • Monday, March 10, 4 p.m. PT – Dr. Joseph Hattrick, Superintendent, Ashland School District

Shared Interest Groups

OLLI at SOU SIGs are independent and self-managed. SIG members decide when, where, and how often they will meet. Initially, one or more members volunteer to be facilitator(s). The facilitator is responsible for administrative and communication details. Participation in SIGS are open to OLLI members.

If you would like to start a SIG, fill out the Programs and Activities Proposal Form.

Currently active SIGs:

Do you understand basic guitar chords and strumming techniques and would like to jam with other OLLI members? If so, join the Acoustic Guitar Jam SIG every fourth Friday of the month from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the Campbell Center. Participants will suggest songs for the rest of the group to play together. No extensive guitar playing experience is required, but you must provide your own guitar. You will also find a guitar tuner, capo and music stand to be helpful. For additional information and to register for the SIG, please contact Randall Walker at rswalker48@gmail.com.

Meets the third Saturday of the month at 3:00 p.m. PT on Zoom. All OLLI at SOU members are welcome to join.

Winter Term Meetings:

  • January 18: Lyrics for Lara, by John Frohnmayer. The author will be joining the SIG discussion for this special meeting.
  • February 15: Lovely One, by Ketanji Brown Jackson, U.S. Supreme Court Judge.
  • March 15: Black AF History: The Un-Whitewashed Story of America, by Michael Harriot.

Meets the first and third Mondays of the month, 1–3 p.m. PT on Zoom (holiday exceptions may occur). OLLI at SOU members with some previous watercolor painting experience are welcome to join.
