Orientation has been designed to meet the unique needs of users and is offered in multiple formats, including in-person, live virtual, and recorded. We encourage all members of the SOU community to review these resources early and return to this site as updates are posted. On this page, you can:
Workday Orientation: Faculty & Staff
Faculty and staff will participate in role-based courses that focus on the tools and processes relevant to their work. Review the orientation topics and choose which topics to complete based on your role.

Students

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you change any of your personal information in Workday, those changes will NOT be reflected in Banner. Workday will not be our definitive “source of truth” until September. So, if you have a new address and update it in Workday, you still need to update it in Banner Student Services so that it will be recorded in our current system of record.
Navigating Workday
Introduces students to Workday Student and the new system experience at SOU. Resources provide an overview of key terms, navigation tools, and essential features students will use throughout their academic journey.
Students will learn how to use global search and filters, manage their My Tasks inbox and notifications, review and update profile information, adjust account preferences, and access Workday on mobile.
By completing this track, students will be prepared to confidently navigate Workday and complete required tasks.

New Student Onboarding
Guides new students through required onboarding steps in Workday. Students will learn how to complete tasks in their My Tasks inbox, including verifying identification, selecting a refund method, submitting required health documentation, reviewing revolving charge agreements, and confirming personal and contact information.
By completing this learning track, new students will be prepared to successfully finish onboarding requirements and avoid delays.

Current/Continuing Student Onboarding
Guides continuing students through required onboarding tasks in Workday. Tasks may include reviewing and confirming personal and contact information, updating emergency contacts, managing Friends and Family access and third-party permissions, and consenting to receive tax documents (1098-T) electronically.
By completing this learning track, continuing students will ensure their information is accurate and their access preferences are properly set.

Self-Service: How to Access & Manage My Information
Students learn how to access and manage their information in Workday. Students will learn how to navigate their Student Profile, review key tabs, and update personal and contact information. This track also covers how to view holds, review academic progress, access unofficial transcripts, and locate important student records.
By completing this learning track, students will be prepared to confidently manage their own information and monitor their academic status in Workday.

Self-Service: Academics, Advising, and Registration
Students are guided through managing their academic journey in Workday. Students will learn how to review their Academic Progress Report, create and update Academic Plans, identify their assigned advisor, and prepare for advising conversations.
Students also learn step-by-step guidance on registering for classes and completing the full advising and registration process within Workday.
By completing this learning track, students will be prepared to plan their coursework, meet degree requirements, and successfully register for upcoming terms.

Start Here: Navigating the Student Profile and Self-Service
This introductory course presents an overview of the student-facing components of Workday. Participants will learn how to access and navigate the Student Profile, review key personal and academic information, and understand the purpose of key tabs and actions.
The session also explores Workday from the student perspective, including My Tasks, Action Items, and applications such as the Academics Hub. By the end of the course, attendees will be able to confidently locate student information and guide students through common self-service activities.
Faculty and staff who work directly with students or support academic and student-facing processes. Serves as the foundational basis for all other sessions and should be completed before any others.

Advising in Workday
This session prepares advisors to use Workday Student tools that support advising and academic planning. Participants will review related components of the Student Profile, such as academic standing, class level, degree type, program of study (major), and placement information.
Essential advising processes covered include adding or changing programs of study, reviewing and resolving student holds, understanding advisor assignments, working with student cohorts, and accessing the Academic Progress Report (Workday’s degree audit tool, replacing DegreeWorks). Advisors will also learn how to review and build Academic Plans to support students’ degree pathways.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to confidently navigate advising tools in Workday and support students through core academic planning processes.

View Student Academic Progress
This course provides an in-depth review of the Academic Progress Report in Workday, SOU’s degree audit tool, replacing DegreeWorks. Participants will learn how to navigate the report, interpret requirements, and evaluate a student’s academic standing.
The session covers how to distinguish between general education and program-specific requirements, identify completed coursework, and determine remaining requirements needed for degree completion. Attendees will gain hands-on familiarity with locating and reviewing key academic progress information to support advising and student planning.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to confidently interpret and evaluate a student’s Academic Progress Report in Workday.
Advisors and staff who regularly review degree audits or need additional practice navigating the Academic Progress Report. Recommended for anyone who currently uses DegreeWorks.

Workday for Instructors
This course prepares teaching faculty to use Workday tools that support instruction and course management. Participants will learn how to navigate the Teaching app, access course rosters, review student information, submit grades, and manage prerequisite overrides.
The session focuses on the core tasks instructors will complete in Workday to support their courses and students. By the end of this course, participants will be able to manage essential teaching responsibilities within Workday confidently.

Workday for Academic Administrators
This course prepares academic leaders to manage program-level responsibilities in Workday Student. Participants will learn how to oversee and manage student cohorts, including adding and removing students, as well as how to waive or override major requirements when appropriate.
The session focuses on tools that support academic oversight, program management, and decision-making within Workday.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to confidently manage cohorts and major requirement exceptions in support of their programs.
