At Southern Oregon University, our admission decisions are based on a review of your total academic portfolio, including GPA, test scores, and other several other factors.
Students planning on transferring to SOU from an accredited college or university should have:
- Completed at least 36 quarter credits (24 semester credits) of transfer level credit.
- At least a 2.25 GPA (minimum 2.0 GPA for all California Exchange Program participants with an AA or AS degree and students who have completed an Oregon AAOT degree). See the California Exchange Program page for more information.
- Left all previous institutions in good academic standing.
- Satisfied our Second Language Requirement.
Applicants with fewer than 36 quarter credits must also meet the freshmen admission requirements.
Non-Admitted Undergraduate Students:
Students who have a standard high school diploma or a GED and who wish to enroll in no more than 8 credits during a term may apply online as a non-admitted undergraduate student. If you already have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accreditted institution, you do not qualify to be a non-admitted undergraduate student - please see the section below for non-admitted graduate students. Non-Admitted undergraduate students will not earn a degree and are not eligible for Financial Aid. If you decide to pursue Admission to SOU at a later date, your coursework is counted toward the degree you want to get.
Non-Admitted Graduate Students:
Students who have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution and who wish to enroll in no more than 8 credits during a term may apply online as a non-admitted graduate student. Non-Admitted graduate students will not earn a degree and are not eligible for Financial Aid. Graduate programs may only accept a specific number of these credits prior to granting approval for admission into the program. Please contact the appropriate graduate program coordinator for further assistance. Non-admitted graduate students may take a mixture of undergraduate and graduate level coursework, but see the important note below regarding tuition. Important Note for Potential Non-admitted Graduate Students: Please note that if you become a non-admitted graduate student, you will pay graduate level tuition rates for all of your coursework, including undergraduate coursework. If you are only planning on taking undergraduate coursework, please consult the Office of Admissions about becoming a post-baccalaureate undergraduate student. Please see the formal policies for Non-admitted Undergraduate and Non-Admitted Graduate students for official information about qualifications and regulations.
Formerly admitted students who are returning to SOU do not need to apply for readmission. You are eligible to register for classes via SISWeb or at the Enrollment Services Center on campus. Check the academic calendar to see when registration is available for the term you wish to return.
