Students who complete the Health & Crisis Communication Micro-Credential will be able to:

• Explain and apply health communication theories to societal/public health problems and individual health problems. (COMM 346, COMM 446, and COMM 486)
• Identify the advantages and disadvantages of communication channels and messaging strategies, and demonstrate the ability to select the appropriate channel and message mix for different objectives and audiences. (COMM 346, COMM 446, and COMM 486)
• Demonstrate skills in interpersonal and family communication relevant to health (e.g., patient-practitioner communication). (COMM 346)
• Describe the role of science and statistics in communicating risk to the public, and identify best practices in communicating this complex information to non-scientific audiences. (COMM 446 and COMM 486)
• Explain the advantages and disadvantages of different crisis management strategies and develop recommendations for crisis management. (COMM 446)
• Formulate a plan for a focused, technology-based communication strategy to address a health concern. (COMM 486)
