Heritage and history are profoundly embedded in how we construct our identities and negotiate our present. Ownership and interpretation of the past can be contested, and applied archaeological practice can play a role facilitating access to the past among local communities, indigenous people, academics, and the larger public.
Come join a lunchtime conversation about this topic with University of Oregon PhD candidate Anna Sloan, who works with a Yup’ik community in Quinhagak, Alaska, and Southern Oregon University professor Mark Tveskov who researches the era of gold rush settler colonialism in southern Oregon.
