Percussion
Percussion applicants must perform a concert and/or rudimental snare drum solo, and a 2- or 4-mallet keyboard work. Works should be chosen to best demonstrate the applicant’s musical and technical proficiency. Optional: a timpani solo or étude demonstrating musical and technical proficiency; a multi-percussion solo; a drum set solo demonstrating proficiency in jazz, Latin, and popular styles; and/or a hand drum solo demonstrating proficiency in the instrument’s tradition. Piano
There are a few options for the incoming pianists: we offer a more general, Liberal Arts degree with a piano as a major instrument, listed as a BA or BS in Music, and a BM in Piano Performance (or in Music Education). Depending on your desire and abilities, we are willing to accept a wide range of repertoire at our auditions. In the most general terms, a minimum of two (better three) contrasting pieces, representing any two (or more) musical styles from the following:
- Baroque
- Classical
- Romantic
- Impressionistic
- 20th Century
- Music written after 1980

Strings

Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba
Applicants in trombone, euphonium, and tuba should prepare two solos of contrasting styles that demonstrate the musical range of the applicant. Etudes are acceptable. Piano accompaniment is encouraged but not required. Additionally, the applicant will be asked to perform at least 2 two-octave major scales to be selected by the auditioning committee. Applicants may be asked to sight-read.
Trumpet
All applicants should prepare two solos of any genre (selections, etudes and non-classical pieces are allowed) that showcase the applicant’s musical range and be prepared to play all major and minor scales. Applicants may be asked to play familiar songs by ear and sight-read.
Voice
Applicants should prepare two pieces of contrasting style and/or language. At least one of the selections should be a classical composition (for example an art song or an aria). Performers are expected to sing from memory. An accompanist will be provided upon request. Woodwind Audition Requirements:
(Flute, Clarinets, Saxophones, Oboe, Bassoon)
- Perform chromatic scale
- Perform 3 adjacent major scales
- Perform two contrasting selections (fast & slow etudes or a fast & slow movement from solo repertoire)
