Alison S. Burke joined the Criminology Department in 2008. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of New Mexico and spent a year studying psychology at Oxford University. Dr. Burke earned her Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice (MCJ) from the University of Colorado at Denver and her Ph.D. in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2008. She worked for more than five years with juvenile delinquents in medium security treatment facilities and group homes in Colorado and helped implement delinquency prevention programs in Pennsylvania. Her research interests include juvenile justice, women and crime, gender and juvenile justice, and pedagogy in higher education. She has published articles in Educational Review, Journal of Effective Teaching, Journal of Youth, Violence and Juvenile Justice, and guest edited an issue of Women & Criminal Justice. Brian Fedorek, PhD

Brian joined the CCJ Department in 2009. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Duquesne University, with an emphasis in existential phenomenology. Brian’s Master’s and Doctorate degrees in criminology are from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Brian’s areas of interest and research include criminal violence, victimology, mass media and crime, and criminological theory. He has four children – Eva, Oliver, and twins – Everett and Violet. David Carter, PhD

David E. Carter joined the Criminology and Criminal Justice Department in 2008. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati. Dave served in the U.S. Army for 8 years prior to attending school. He has published works in the Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency in the area of life-course research, as well as in the Corrections Compendium, where he wrote about U.S. inmate populations. He also provides consultation and evaluations for correctional programs in the area of effective interventions and evidence-based programming. See full bio here

Shanell Sanchez joined the Criminology and Criminal Justice department in 2016 after teaching 3 years at Colorado Mesa University. Dr. Sanchez received her Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Sociology.
