Outdoor Adventure Leadership Programs
Adventure programs ready to take you to the next level!
Offered as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Major
A degree in Outdoor Adventure Leadership (OAL) inspires passion, drive, transformation; teaches technical abilities, judgment, interpersonal skills; and gives graduates the capacity to change the way people think, feel, and perform. In short, the OAL degree teaches students to lead any group, in any setting, to any end. At this very moment, OAL majors at SOU are completing internships, practicum experiences, and gaining vital skills throughout the world and in our very own backyard of Southern Oregon.
Offered as a Master’s Degree in Outdoor Adventure & Expedition Leadership
The Master of Outdoor Adventure and Expedition Leadership (MOAEL) is designed to meet the needs of outdoor adventure leaders and educators in the regional, national, and international communities. This program targets outdoor educators and adventure leaders seeking a high-level graduate program with a strong foundation in theory and experiential learning, and equips students with the interdisciplinary skills required to grasp and develop new concepts, technologies, methods and trends in the outdoor adventure leadership field.
Offered as a Secondary Discipline Minor
The OAL minor complements any major. Now the music major can play their guitar while guiding an overnight rafting trip, the physics teachers can explain the dynamic forces involved with rock climbing, biology majors can explore the deep forest or ocean bottoms, history majors can explain how the 10th Mountain Army Division started the U.S. ski industry, and a nursing major can accompany an expedition to Everest.
