Dr. Tveskov on Tribally-Led Anthropology Projects
Written by Alex Karreman
Dr. Mark Axel Tveskov about his work with the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw on a tribally-led project about protecting cultural sites and landscapes in conjunction with archaeologists. Dr. Tveskov is a professor of Anthropology and in the Native American Studies program at SOU. This presentation was on different archaeological sites and practices that are starting to get implemented due to Native people now being a part of the conversation of archaeology. Also, the rise in the need for non-invasive technology lets archeologists research even further while respecting the land they are researching. This event was put on by the SOAN program and hopefully, there will be more events like this on campus in the future. This event took place on November 15, 2022.
