A 50-year Relationship
Southern Oregon University and the Universidad de Guanajuato officially renewed a friendship that has been built over the past 50 years when the institutions’ leaders pledged during spring of 2019 to broaden their collaboration over the next half-century.
Delegations from Guanajuato, Mexico, and the Universidad de Guanajuato visited Ashland and Southern Oregon University in April 2019 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their sister city and sister university relationships. A delegation of about 80 people from Ashland – including SOU leaders, faculty and staff – visited the city of Guanajuato a month and a half later. A highlight of the visit, both parties report, was celebrating the much-anticipated NAIA championship win of the SOU Women’s’ softball team.
The celebrations included a formal renewal of the partnerships between the cities and universities, which are seen as opportunities to recommit to the ideals that inspired the relationships in 1969.
