Prior to his hiring as president at NNMC, Dr. Bailey was the first-ever dean of students at the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies at Air University, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Bailey was also the associate professor of strategy and security studies.
He also served as a military liaison and defense trade analyst at the U.S. State Department after earning his doctorate in government from Georgetown University in 2006. He then served as NATO’s chief air operations officer at Joint Force Command Brunssum in The Netherlands, overseeing air operations for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.
Bailey received his Air Force commission in 1992, served flying tours in the C-9A, C-141B, and UV-18B aircraft and has been an aircraft commander, instructor pilot and flight examiner.
Dr. Bailey earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering sciences from the U.S. Air Force Academy and his master’s degree in international affairs from Washington University in St. Louis.
His unflinching focus is on student success and the innovative operational approaches that make higher education attainable to learners of all backgrounds and ages. His master’s thesis was on the struggle for women’s rights in Latin America and his doctoral dissertation examined changes in U.S. military policy brought about by integration in the armed services.
Dr. Bailey and his wife, Diana, live in Ashland.
