President Rick Bailey expresses his gratitude to the current staff at the SOU Student Health & Wellness Center and to La Clinica, which will manage the clinic beginning in September to keep students’ healthcare costs affordable and maintain sustainable operation. He addresses the recent NAIA action that limits participation by transgender athletes in women’s sports, saying he understands the need for both inclusivity and fair competition. He urges students and prospective students to check in with the SOU Financial Aid Office to take advantage of opportunities through FAFSA and the Oregon Opportunity Grant program. And he discusses universities’ value as they produce idea generators, entrepreneurs, scientists and others who contribute to a vibrant economy.
