I want to thank each of you for your interest in Southern Oregon University, and the path it takes into the future. That is what these strategic planning pages are all about – the deliberate choices that are being made to position SOU as Oregon’s university for the future.
This website includes sections on the Strategic Plan we developed in 2017 and 2018, and the progress we’ve made since that time in implementing elements of the plan; how we developed the plan; and the research that many of our faculty and staff members have volunteered to undertake into productive and innovative next steps for our university.
The goals and objectives of the plan, and potential strategies for achieving them, have been prioritized. Many of those plan elements have been assigned and their implementation is underway.
Our plan is focused, achievable and forward-thinking. It is helping to clarify how SOU can best serve its learners and meet the needs of our region, state and world.
SOU is achieving its goal to become Oregon’s university for the future. The work we are doing should inspire each member of our campus community to strive for greatness – individually and collectively – over the next five, 10, and even 20 years.
Again, I thank you for your interest and participation.
Dr. Linda Schott
The SOU Plan
This section communicates our university’s strategic directions and goals in their most current iteration. Please check back here for updates as we move into Stage 4 of our Strategic Planning process in Fall 2017.
In January of 2017, President Schott invited interested staff and faculty to participate in one of seven Professional Learning Community (PLC) groups. SOU also sought feedback from our internal and external communities.
We sought to understand our current reality and think about what a sustainable, productive future looks like for SOU. By building on what we learned, we’ve articulated our vision, clarified our mission and developed our future strategic directions.
