SOU’s Pre-Alcohol and Drug Counseling Certificate gives you the academic foundation required to pursue Oregon’s Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (CADC II) credential. Through focused, applied coursework, you’ll explore the science of addiction, treatment approaches, and practical counseling strategies that support individuals and communities affected by substance use.
This certificate fulfills the educational requirement for CADC II certification. To become fully certified at the state level, you’ll also need supervised field experience and to pass the certification exam, which are completed separately.
Whether you’re studying psychology, human service, or sociology, this program helps you build skills that translate to real-world impact, preparing you for graduate study or future professional certification in the field of behavioral health. This certificate opens one of the few pathways in Oregon for those with a bachelor’s degree to qualify for counseling roles in the field of recovery.
