Submitting Verification
The Department of Education randomly selects at least 30% of all college students who submit a FAFSA for the verification process. This process confirms certain information supplied on the FAFSA. Students must submit the required documentation and be verified before receiving financial aid.
Southern Oregon University Financial Aid processes verification electronically. SOU Students can also submit Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals, Cost of Attendance Appeals, Unusual Circumstance Appeals, and Special Circumstance Appeals.
Selected for Verification?
Complete the verification process below. Students must follow the verification process link and activate their account. Parents must follow the link and set up their account to e-sign verification documents. Parents will also be able to set up an account once they receive an email from finaid@sou.edu letting them know that their student has completed their verification and just needs a signature from the parent.
Please note: Your information must match your FAFSA information exactly in order to set up both the parent and student account. If the information inputted does not match, you will not be able to set up your account. If you are having any issues with this you can review your FAFSA to double-check that all the information is correct. All verification must be completed through the student portal. Any incomplete or unreceived files will have to submit all required documents through the student portal.
Deadlines
- For the 2023-24 award year: No later than 120 days after the student’s last date of enrollment for the award year or September 21, 2024, whichever is earlier.
- The deadlines for 2024-2025 are not available at this time. It is expected to be no later than 120 days after the student’s last date of enrollment for the award year or September 20, 2025, whichever is earlier.
If we need to make corrections to your FAFSA after submission of your requirements please allow up to 3 weeks for processing. We will send you an updated financial aid offer email if any adjustments are needed to be made to your offer. Not meeting the above deadlines can result in being ineligible for financial aid.
Please note, that not completing your financial aid requirements before you cease enrollment can also impact your ability to receive certain types of financial aid, including Federal Direct Loans, even if you do meet the above deadlines. Your financial aid will also be based on completed credits vs. enrolled credits. It is recommended you complete your financial aid requirements as soon as possible to avoid loss of eligibility.
Processing time increases significantly during peak periods. Processing time is typically 7 to 10 business days but may exceed 10 business days during peak processing times. For status updates about your file, please email us at finaid@sou.edu
