Early Childhood Development Workshops
To provide support for early childhood professionals in the community and to allow our online students a venue to work face-to-face with their peers, we have developed a series of Early Childhood Development Workshops. One credit of ED 399 will be available for those who attend the full 8 hour class and complete the course assignment.

Whole Body Learning: Games and Movement for Young Children
Presented by Paula Lynam, SOU Instructor
We will examine the topic of whole-body learning and the importance of movement in promoting healthy development and learning in the early years. Understanding that movement provides nourishment for the brain and foundational senses, we will explore and practice safe, healthy movement activities for young children, and create ways to incorporate movement journeys, games, the developmental movements, songs, rhymes, and other lively activities into the child’s every day.
Family Inclusion: 2Gen Approaches
Presented by Felicity Elworthy, SOU Instructor
Study of the field of Trauma using the leading research to understand brain functioning, the types of trauma, symptoms and strategies for supporting children with trauma in the classroom including mindfulness practice and using the Brain Game. This course is an interactive, student centered model delivered online there will be activities, discussions, demonstrations, lecture and a section to explore concepts using a menu of activities.

How do I get registered for a workshop?
SOU Students: Register online using your student account. See the class schedule for the CRNs.
Non-SOU Students: These workshops are available to community members! To reserve your seat in the course, please email Susan Faller at fallers@sou.edu for the Community Member registration link. If you’d like to earn SOU college credit, be sure to make note of this during your registration.
Which fees are associated with these workshops?
The workshops are FREE unless someone wants to take it for university credit – $60.
Which documents do I need to send to ORO?
Did you attend for training hours?
No need to submit any forms! The CCRN will submit hours to ORO on your behalf. Be sure to log into your ORO account to track your progress.
Did you attend for SOU credit?
You will want to send two documents to ORO.
- A copy of your unofficial transcript
- The correlating CKC letter
*Note: Missing any of these documents can delay processing time.

Do you need an official copy forwarded to your current community college or university?
Can high school students attend ECD Saturday workshops?
Absolutely! High school students may attend for professional development purposes. Students will leave the workshop with a Certificate of Completion.
At this time, high school students are ineligible for the college credit option offered at these workshops.
