The English minor serves as a great complement to any major, providing students with an edge in critical thinking and communication that will make them more marketable in the workplace. The minor in English provides students with a foundation in critical thinking skills through literary analysis, as well as opportunities to develop their writing skills. Students choosing an English minor have the flexibility to design their own program. Students can opt for a general exploration of courses in a variety of topics: literature, English education, linguistics, rhetoric and professional writing. Students can also design a minor program in a particular topic of study to complement their major.

If you want to cultivate your writing skills for work in Marketing, Business, and/or the non-profit sector, the English minor is for you. For students majoring in Education, the English minor provides pedagogy classes in writing and literature. Because literature makes people’s experiences real to us, students studying in the Social Sciences can expand their knowledge base of social problems and lived existences.
Degree Roadmap
Students in the English minor complete 24 credits in the English Program. English minors take English 301: Introduction to Literary Analysis and Theory and five electives of their choice.
