Numerical Literacy
What: The capacity for Numerical Literacy enables students to appropriately extract, interpret, evaluate, construct, communicate, and use quantitative information (e.g., numerical data, equations, graphs, diagrams, tables) and methods to solve problems, evaluate claims, and support decisions in students’ everyday professional, civic, and personal lives Numerical Literacy prepares learners to reason well and solve quantitative problems within various disciplinary and interdisciplinary contexts.
Why: To understand trends and solve problems, students’ ability to reason with numbers and mathematical concepts will enable them to formulate, support, and evaluate arguments and concepts with data.
Numerical Literacy Capacity
Accurately apply mathematical computations and models to solve real-world problems.
- Show proficiency with number systems, mathematical operations, and mathematical properties.
- Reach valid conclusions relying on logical arguments/proofs.
- Use computational tools or algorithmic procedures to automate quantitative analysis and decision-making.
