Ryan Weatherwax, Ph.D, CSCS, ACSM-EP
Associate Professor
PhD, Sport and Exercise, Auckland University of Technology; MS, Exercise Science, Northern Michigan University; BS, Exercise Science (Clinical), Grand Valley State University; AS, General Studies, Grand Rapids Community College
Dr. Weatherwax’s passion as a professional is being in the classroom (in-person and online) with students to help them learn, appreciate, and become ambassadors of the fields of health, exercise science, and kinesiology. He strongly believes the educational experience must move beyond memorization and focus on the ability to apply information to new situations, draw parallels between concepts/ideas, and produce high-quality original work. Seeing students take ownership of their education, push themselves to have a deeper understanding of the content, critically analyze and apply information, and develop a passion and excitement for the field is truly an invaluable experience.
His research investigates how to individualize exercise prescriptions to enhance training outcomes and the identification of when and why true training adaptations and responses occur. Dr. Weatherwax’s other professional interests relate to improving exercise performance and health outcomes through evidence-based practice, evaluating the mechanics of movements, environmental considerations to exercise, exercise interventions in clinical settings, and pedagogical practices in higher education to enhance the student learning experience.
