Offered as a Secondary Discipline Minor
The Mathematics Education Minor allows students interested in teaching to specialize and craft their knowledge of K-12 mathematics. As a future teacher, it is important to keep in mind that teachers’ mathematical knowledge has been shown to directly correlate to student achievement gains.
By completing these series, students will have a strong foundation which is characteristic of highly effective teachers with a specialized understanding of K-12 mathematical concepts.
This program is designed for students preparing to teach mathematics at the elementary, middle, or high school levels.
Students will establish a core foundation in their understanding of K-12 mathematics by completing our Fundamental of Elementary Mathematics Series (Math 211, 212, and 213). Students will then continue deepening their content knowledge of K-12 mathematics by completing five Math 481 Topics in Middle and High School Mathematics Series.
Many students are delighted to find that an Math minor complements their major. Whether a student is getting a degree in Business, Environmental Science, or Education, an Math minor degree can enhance a wide range of field-specific studies and make a graduate more agile and competitive on the job market.
