Offered as a Secondary Discipline Minor
Mathematical skills are among the most valued by employers – based as they are on the ability to quickly learn technique and concept. “Understanding the math” is a key element of success in the sciences, engineering, economics and finance. Minoring in math helps a student become knowledgeable and adaptable in many fields.
All students can enrich their major degree with a minor in mathematics. Students whose majors require one or more quarters of calculus are especially suited to furthering their mathematical knowledge via a minor in mathematics.
Students pursuing a mathematics minor begin by taking two terms of calculus, linear algebra, and mathematical perspectives. These courses are followed by 12-14 credits of upper division mathematics, chosen from various options to meet the individual student’s needs.
Many students are delighted to find that an Math minor complements their major. Whether a student is getting a degree in Business, Environmental Science, or Education, an Math minor degree can enhance a wide range of field-specific studies and make a graduate more agile and competitive on the job market.
