EDMA 10th Anniversary: Alumni Spotlight
Crystal Burns – 2015 Graduate, USAF Visual Information Specialist
“I have been working as a Visual Information Specialist at Little Rock Air Force Base for the last 5 years. My responsibilities include developing print and digital graphics for internal and external audiences; I also develop short animations for a base-wide digital marquee system.
The EMDA program at Southern Oregon University taught a diverse set of graphic communication classes which challenged me and broadened my technical skills. Although I was primarily interested in learning print graphics, the classes in animation gave me the basics I needed to be able to create professional slide designs for the base marquee system. I also learned how to work with various data mining tools which have been useful in my position. The EMDA program prepared me to be open and accepting of learning new skills and not being afraid to try to push past my own comfort zone.
The staff in the EMDA program were very helpful and were genuinely concerned about preparing me to be successful in the real world. I am grateful for the education that I received as an EMDA student and strongly recommend their program to anyone interested in pursuing a Media and Digital Arts degree.”
Crystal has provided a glimpse of the work that she is doing as part of the USAF. Her works are great examples of what she learned from her college academic career and her current job with the USAF. Below is a project that was for Little Rock Air Force Base which gives an “Economic Impact Statement”, and was produced using many graphic design techniques you learn as part of the Emerging Media & Digital Arts program.
If you are an EMDA alum who would like to share a few words (and even some art) in celebration of our 10th anniversary, contact Robert Arellano through the EMDA alumni LinkedIn group.
