The interdisciplinary certificate in Spanish and Latinx Studies gives students a comprehensive understanding of the history, literature, and cultural and societal contributions of Spanish-speaking communities in the US and across the world.
This certificate is designed for non-degree-seeking students and traditional degree-seeking students and can be earned as part of the Spanish major, or independently and in conjunction with other areas of study, making it a versatile addition to your academic journey. Employers in all fields highly value language and cross-cultural abilities. A Spanish & Latinx Studies certificate can help make you a sought after bilingual employee.
Courses include four core classes to develop a strong base of knowledge about Spanish grammar, written and oral communication, and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world, as well as three electives furthering students’ knowledge base while developing critical thinking skills in Spanish. One of the three electives, related to Latin America or the Latinx community in the US, can be taken in another discipline (such as History, English, or Sociology and Anthropology).

Degree Roadmap
Every Spanish and Latinx Studies student will take courses in Spanish language, linguistics, and their choice of cultural studies courses, which include the analysis of history, art, film, music, literature, and current events. These courses are specialized to broaden their understanding of the complexity of the Spanish-speaking world while sharpening their critical thinking skills.
