Transfer FAQ
What are SOU’s transfer student requirements?
As a transfer applicant, you should have
- Completed at least 36 quarter credits (24 semester credits) of college level credit
- At least a 2.25 GPA* or a 2.0 GPA with a completed associates degree
- Left all previous institutions in good academic standing
- Satisfied our second language requirement
If you have some credits but don’t meet the minimum 36 quarter credits (24 semester credits), you will need to meet the freshman admission requirements.
*This minimum GPA may vary for California Exchange Program participants.

Courses from Washington schools with the Associate in Arts Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) will meet SOU’s lower division general education requirements.
What is an articulation agreement?
An articulation agreement is a partnership or contract between two or more colleges or universities that establishes a pathway for students to transfer from one to the other. SOU has articulation agreements with many schools, which are listed in the Articulation Agreement section below.
Students who successfully complete the designated courses in a SOU articulation agreement will:
- Meet SOU’s lower-division general education requirements
- Be eligible for admission to their selected major at SOU
- Upon admission, be guaranteed junior standing within their selected major
What do I need to do if my school is an articulation agreement partner?
If you have participated in a SOU articulation agreement program, we recommend that you contact our Transfer Specialist. You may also review upper division course requirements in the SOU catalog.
