Public Health Education

In the Public Health Education micro-credential, you will explore education and communication principles and methods to promote preventive health measures. You will also gain expertise in providing and managing health education programs that help individuals, families, and their communities maximize and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Design personalized health promotion programs around behavioral, psychological, biological, genetic and environmental factors that affect population health; And explain and communicate the social, political, and economic determinants of health and how they contribute to population health, access to healthcare systems, and health inequities. The mirco-credential provides a specialized research-based education for post-baccalaureate learners and may be completed in one year, starting any quarter.

• HE 530: Health Education and Promotion
• HE 531: Equity Issues in Public Health

And choose from the following two courses:

• ED 590: Principles and Theories of Adult Learning and Development
• ED 591: Applied Strategies for Engaging Adult Learners

Rising Economic Demand

• The purpose is two-fold, to provide a pathway into the MSEd degree for adult learners interested in a professional area but not commitied to a degree at that time, and create opportunities for our alumni to continue to stay connected with SOU through continued professional development. Job opportunities as a health educator are available in six major career sectors: community health, school health, business and nonprofit health, academia and university government, and healthcare.
