Spanish for Educators

The Spanish for Educators micro-credential prepares students to communicate in Spanish at an advanced level and in contexts relevant to the field of education. Students will come away with the vocabulary and ability to talk and think critically about Spanish language learning and acquisition, and will have a better understanding of both their own language learning experiences and the experiences of others. In addition, students will have a greater understanding of the histories, cultures, and experiences of Latinx communities in the United States, developing in this way cultural competence to work with Hispanic families and students.

Students who complete the Spanish for Educators micro-credential will be able to:

• Explore the field of Second Language Acquisition and teaching Spanish in the U.S. (SPAN 381/481)
• Develop skills and knowledge of grammatical concepts. (SPAN 315)
• Develop cultural communication competence through an awareness of Latin American history and Latinx perspectives. (SPAN 311/411)
• Engage in hands-on practice of different teaching methods, techniques, and materials, as well as curriculum design and assessment in Spanish. (SPAN 381/481)
