Theatre Degrees
SOU’s Theatre program focuses entirely on undergraduate students. Experience close working relationships with faculty who are specialists in every aspect of theatrical study.
Offered as a Bachelor of Fine Arts
The BFA degree is appropriate for students who are preparing for professional careers in theatre. BFA candidates must select an area of concentration for their degree. Students pursuing the BFA degree are expected to complete a thesis project in their area of concentration.

The Performance Concentration offers intensive, conservatory-style training to actors and performers working towards professional careers in the arts. Students accepted into the Performance Concentration will complete sequenced coursework in acting, movement, and voice and speech.
Offered as a Master of Theatre Studies in Production and Design
An intensive program specifically designed for working high school and community college theatre teachers provides thorough training in the essential script analysis, design, and production aspects of the theatrical process. All TA 521 through TA 543 courses for the Master of Theatre Studies meet on the SOU campus over three summers.

Students will learn the elements of design, project, and character analysis as they investigate how what we wear tells its own story.

The Certificate in Directing and Devising provides students with a curriculum in these two diverse approaches to a theatre project.

The Certificate in Shakespeare Studies at SOU encompasses the study of Shakespeare’s language and analyses of his plays–as historical artifacts embedded in Elizabethan-Jacobean culture, as objects of ongoing critical-theoretical scrutiny, and as scripts for performance.
