Residence Hall Association (RHA) & Area Council
We, the Residence Hall Association, representing the residential community of Southern Oregon University, acknowledge uniqueness through learning and understanding by promoting tolerance, inclusivity, social justice, and unity among all students. Accepting the responsibility granted upon us by the Department of Housing to be the main policy approving body for the residence halls, we will place emphasis on the residents’ voice and opinions on issues and concerns. We encourage the development of leadership and self-responsibility, while striving to maintain an open and harmonious living environment.
Events
Week Of Welcome:
RHA hosts several events during the weekend before classes begin in order to welcome students back to campus and to a new academic year! These events consist of an outdoor movie night, Rock The Block, and Raider Village Experience. What these events look like may vary each year.
Haunted Hall:
Haunted Hall is an event that occurs in celebration of the spooky season. It is a “haunted house” that is spread throughout the entire Residence Hall. Each floor has a different theme and the themes change every year.
Wake Up With RHA:
This event takes place during the Quiet week of every term. The RHA team hands out free breakfast items and hot beverages to students who might be too stressed or late to class, to grab breakfast. This is a way to offer some relief to busy students and brighten someone’s day.
Winter Ball:
Winter Ball is one of the most popular events hosted by RHA. This is a semi-formal ball, held every year. There’s a DJ, fancy food, and breathtaking decorations. The theme changes each year.
Block Party:
Block Party is held in celebration of making it through another academic year! There’s food, games, music, and more!
Area Council
Each residence hall (McLoughlin, Shasta, and Madrone) has an Area Council that is elected at the beginning of each academic year. Each elected council consists of 5-7 residents that make up the Area Council Executive Board. These students are tasked with creating an engaging community through the implementation of social and educational programming in the residence halls, with the assistance of their advisor(s). The leadership teams work very closely with the Residence Hall Association, and is often a stepping stone to other leadership opportunities in University Housing.
